VETOFLEX RECOVERY BELT SYSTEM

We recommend using the VETOFLEX RECOVERY BELT system as part of a horse's recovery after colic or hernia surgery. These compression belts offers several benefits: protects the wound from environmental dirt and flying insects in the stall, supports the abdominal wall as it heals, and reduces soft tissue swelling around the incision site.

The ergonomic design ensures comfort for horses of various shapes and sizes. The fleece lining along the topline protects against painful pressure sores, while the special woven fabric, made from non-irritating materials, provides strength and support. The belt is fully breathable, easy to maintain, and simple to disinfect.

The colic recovery belt should be used immediately after colic surgery. In cases where a complication like a hernia occurs after abdominal surgery or stallion castration (which can be prevented by using a colic recovery belt), our hernia recovery belt includes a pocket for a supportive, breathable foam plate that is included with the belt. This plate effectively distributes point pressure from the hernia across the entire area.

We highly recommend purchasing both the stable belt and riding belt to enable the best possible outcome for performance horses returning to work while supporting the abdominal wall healing post colic surgery.

From Grand Prix To The ICU

Dreamy’s Story

In August 2024, Jen’s dressage horse Dreamy achieved 80% in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Just ten days later, he underwent emergency colic surgery for a volvulus. Though no resection was required, the volvulus returned a week later, leading to a second surgery. The second incision developed a severe infection that persisted for months.

During his ICU stay, Dreamy was fitted with a standard abdominal recovery belt. It wasn’t designed for his warmblood frame, leaving him with pressure sores, bald patches, and discomfort. His cheerful demeanor turned sour whenever the belt went on.
